Because of great travel distances, Cascade County Mosquito Control uses 4 routes each week. Beginning with Route #1 on Monday night and finishing with Route #4 on Thursday night, a total of 32 trap locations are collected each week. Trap collections begin in early June and end in late September. Testing for WNV in Cx. tarsalis begins in June and ends in September. Each weekly trap site collection will be available for viewing on the following Monday.

County-wide          Great Falls area

Developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the CDC Miniature Light Trap provides a portable and reliable sampling device for the collection of mosquitoes. The collected mosquitoes are separated by species and counted, providing mosquito control personnel valuable information. The species, Culex tarsalis, the most prevalent vector for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Cascade County, is sorted into pools of 10 - 50 mosquitoes and tested for the virus using a RAMP machine.
